LSWO Student Support Services:
The LSWO has provided students from throughout the United States with guidance regarding their careers in social work. The LSWO has been supporting students by providing 4 services.
School Selection: The LSWO has provided high school students, community college students, and college students on choosing a school of social work. Part of the way the LSWO has helped students is by providing publication to assist students in selecting a social work program.
Mentorship: Many Latino and non-Latino social work students feel isolated and not supported within their schools of social work. The LSWO has provided guidance for students once they enter their social work programs. This guidance is offered by the LSWO Leadership Network, which includes social work professionals from several different fields of practice that offer mentorship through phone, online chat, and /or video conferencing.
Interviewing Skills: Social Workers find preparation for interviews. The LSWO has been providing students and professionals with Role playing an interview has been very helpful to students and professionals. Providing students or professionals with guidance
Career Management: Many social work students will face a different type of market place depending on such things as geographic region in the United States, field of practices, and dependency on diverse funding streams. The LSWO has developed a guide for Careers in Social Work and information on how to manage one’s Career. Bilingual social workers are in high demand and it is important for students to receive an understanding of their value in workplace.
